Panels work in winter
In fact, solar panels work better in cold weather. Silicon cells are sensitive to heat — above +25°C their efficiency drops.
Winter days
- Short days: ~9 hours of sun (15 hours in summer)
- Clouds: on average a 30% drop in efficiency
- Snow: snow building up on panels temporarily reduces output
About snow
- Panels are smooth and tilted, so snow slides off quickly
- The anti-reflective coating doesn't hold snow
- Light snow actually reflects sunlight and boosts output (the albedo effect)
Average losses in Uzbekistan
25–35% of annual output is generated in winter. This is taken into account when choosing a system.
